Michael Jordan donates $ 1 million to blacks to attend university

New move by superstar master and NBA idol Michael Jordan. He announced the donation of one million dollars - more than R $ 5.2 million - to finance scholarships for black students graduating college.

The idea is to combat the lack of black leaders in sports journalism and athletics.

The donation was disclosed by the benefited institution itself, Morehouse College, a university that has already formed notable figures in the United States, such as film director Spike Lee and actor Samuel L. Jackson.

“Morehouse thanks Michael Jordan for investing in the education of talented African Americans. The donation will guarantee justice, balance and truth in the way sports stories are framed in the way the African American experience is contextualized within American history - said Monique Dozier, one of the institution's directors.

Black Leaders

Jordan's donation, which had the participation of Nike, is part of the ‘Black Commynity Commitment’ project - Commitment to the black community - which kicked off with a donation filmmaker Spike Lee.

Since the beginning of the project, more than 80 former students have already achieved a position in the market within the related areas.

Pandemic

Michael Jordan's help comes at a delicate time in the player's financial life.

A survey by Forbes Magazine says that the former Chicago Bulls athlete, currently 58, would have lost R $ 2.8 billion since April 2020. He owns some businesses, such as the Charlotte Hornets franchise.
